The relational structure

Organizational Modeling through Relational Distances: Comparability, Transversality, and Granularity in Organization Theory

Original title: Modelagem Organizacional por Distâncias Relacionais: Comparabilidade, Transversalidade e Granularidade na Teoria das Organizações

Everyday questionTwo customers receive similar service. One considers it satisfactory; the other does not. Does the difference lie in what happened, what each expected, or both? How could we also examine such gaps between teams, suppliers, and units? This paper offers a common structure for observing distinct relationships while retaining their components and contexts.

Defines the directed relationship as the primary unit, expected and perceived values, operators, and directed aggregation. It includes observations by period and by event.

Scope of the text Conceptual formalization illustrated by a theoretical simulation at a higher education institution.

From observation to governance

Organizational Governance Based on Relational Distances: An Architecture for Observation, Prioritization, and Intervention in Complex Environments

Original title: Governança Organizacional Baseada em Distâncias Relacionais: Arquitetura de Observação, Priorização e Intervenção em Ambientes Complexos

Everyday questionA dashboard shows gaps in customer service, supplier relationships, and teamwork. Which situation deserves attention first? Should the largest distance automatically become the priority? This paper connects observation to organizational decisions by adding contextual criteria, selective investigation, and intervention. The numbers start the inquiry; significance must still be assessed.

Connects structural observation, assessment and prioritization, selective contextual investigation, and compatible intervention in a governance cycle.

Scope of the text Conceptual architecture with theoretical simulation; significance and priority depend on contextual criteria.

How to produce interpretable data

Criteria for Assessing Data Collection Strategies in Organizational Modeling through Relational Distances: A Narrative Review with Thematic Synthesis

Original title: Critérios para Avaliação de Estratégias de Coleta na Modelagem Organizacional por Distâncias Relacionais: Revisão Narrativa com Síntese Temática

Everyday questionAsked what they expected, one person thinks of the likely outcome, another of the ideal service, and a third of a minimum acceptable level. If the question elicits different frames of reference, what are the numbers comparing? This paper examines conditions for producing interpretable judgments before choosing how to collect expectations, perceptions, and declared discrepancies.

Develops six criteria for examining collection strategies: evaluative unit, expected value, experience, response process, temporality, and discrepancies or omissions.

Scope of the text Review of nine studies using qualitative evidence. It offers criteria to apply before selecting an instrument, without declaring one universally superior strategy.

Limitations of self-report

Weaknesses in Collecting Self-Reported Expectation, Perception, and Discrepancy for Organizational Modeling through Relational Distances: A Mixed-Methods Study

Original title: Fragilidades da Coleta por Autorrelato de Expectativa, Percepção e Discrepância na Modelagem Organizacional por Distâncias Relacionais: Estudo Misto

Everyday questionIn an internal survey, expected and perceived scores are nearly equal, yet a participant writes that the outcome fell far below expectations. Which record should prompt inquiry? Does the divergence reflect an unusual experience, an interpretation of the question, or difficulty with the scale? This proposal combines numbers, open accounts, and cognitive probes to study how responses are produced.

Proposes combining values, open descriptions, and cognitive probes to examine the correspondence between records and response processes.

Scope of the text Planned research protocol. The text does not report completed empirical findings.

Cross-cutting application at a university

Cross-Cutting and Multi-Relational Application of Organizational Modeling through Relational Distances at a Higher Education Institution

Original title: Aplicação Transversal e Multirrelacional da Modelagem Organizacional por Distâncias Relacionais em uma Instituição de Ensino Superior

Everyday questionAt a university, students evaluate teaching, administrative service, and their relationship with the institution. Faculty also evaluate coordination. How can these observations be examined together without treating different experiences as interchangeable? This project proposes studying MODR across heterogeneous relationships within one institution while retaining components and conditions for comparison.

Proposes observing academic, administrative, institutional, and managerial relationships through direct collection of expected and perceived values.

Scope of the text Planned empirical application protocol. The analyses and evidence described remain aims of the study.

Compatibility and preparation

Support Artifacts for Assessing MODR Compatibility and Operationalization in Organizational Contexts

Original title: Artefatos de Apoio à Avaliação de Compatibilidade e à Operacionalização da MODR em Contextos Organizacionais

Everyday questionA meeting ends with a decision to apply MODR. But who will evaluate whom? Will judgments concern a whole month or each service event? Is there enough experience to answer? Before investing in technology, this paper proposes tools to assess whether a setting is compatible with MODR and to specify the decisions needed for operational preparation.

Organizes 22 requirements into six compatibility contracts and nine operational contracts. Two structured artifacts support compatibility assessment and operational specification.

Scope of the text Analytical demonstration across eight constructed scenarios, with partial coverage. Use by practitioners and organizational effectiveness have not yet been examined.

Contextual inquiry with AI

Generative Artificial Intelligence in Relational Distance Governance: An Architecture for Selective Contextual Inquiry

Original title: Inteligência Artificial Generativa na Governança Baseada em Distâncias Relacionais: Uma Arquitetura para o Aprofundamento Contextual Seletivo

Everyday questionA student gives a low perceived value to a professor's teaching. Is the issue explanation, pace, the student's circumstances, or something else? How can the case be explored without steering answers or turning hypotheses into facts? This paper proposes an AI architecture for investigating selected cases while preserving the original assessment and the provenance of evidence.

Proposes a deterministic orchestrator, two specialized generative components, and traceable memory to clarify cases referred by governance while preserving the original observation.

Scope of the text Specification assessed through hypothetical scenarios and an illustrative walkthrough. Semantic reliability and empirical use remain to be evaluated.

Patterns in event streams

Incremental Unsupervised Learning in MODR: An Architecture for Recognizing Multi-Relational Patterns in Event Streams

Original title: Aprendizado Não Supervisionado Incremental na MODR: Arquitetura para Reconhecimento de Padrões Multirrelacionais em Fluxos de Eventos

Everyday questionAcross thousands of purchases, a pattern may recur: positive experiences with buying and the product, but low perceived delivery quality. Is it concentrated among certain products, operators, or periods? How can it be tracked as new events arrive? This paper proposes incremental recognition of multi-relational patterns while keeping evaluations linked to their sources and without claiming causal relationships.

Proposes recognizing and tracking configurations that combine purchase, delivery, and product assessments while preserving expected/perceived pairs and links to events and entities.

Scope of the text Conceptual specification. Computational performance, cluster stability, and usefulness with real data require future assessment.
